Current Research
Regional scale measurements/monitoring of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, ozone, carbon monoxide) in subarctic interior Alaska. We are currently pursuing funding to set up a TCCON (Total Carbon Column Observing Network) monitoring station near Fairbanks, AK. I recently did an analysis of FTIR spectra collected by NDACC at Poker Flat Research Range, AK from 2000-2010, resulting in estimated quantities of methane during the 10-year period. During August and September of 2016 a campaign is planned to observe methane and carbon dioxide gradients over Tanana Flats in an attempt to better characterize fluxes over central Alaskan lowland wetlands near large rivers. This 2016 campaign is in collaboration with groups from Los Alamos National Laboratories and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and will utilize two EM27/Sun spectrometers.
