We are excited to invite nominations and self-nominations for volunteers to serve on ARCUS Committees for 2025! These committees play a vital role in shaping ARCUS programs and initiatives, supporting Arctic research, and fostering collaboration within the community.


Why Volunteer for an ARCUS Committee?

Volunteering for an ARCUS committee provides a unique opportunity to:

  • Contribute directly to the advancement of Arctic research and collaboration.
  • Develop leadership skills and expand your professional network.
  • Help shape ARCUS programs and initiatives to address pressing Arctic challenges.
  • Gain visibility within the Arctic research and education community.

Committee Terms and Expectations

  • Term Length: One year (February–December 2025).
  • Meeting Participation: Members are expected to attend approximately 4–6 virtual meetings per year.
  • Contributions: Actively participate in committee goals, including assigned tasks, collaborative discussions, and project planning.
  • Minimum Participation: Attend at least 75% of meetings and contribute to one or more deliverables or activities outlined in the committee description.

Available Committees

Annual Meeting Committee

The Annual Meeting Committee is responsible for the planning, organization, and execution of the ARCUS Annual Meeting in Fall 2025. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing the meeting agenda.
  • Synthesizing the activities of other committees throughout the year for reporting.
  • Securing speakers to enhance visibility for the ARCUS board and institutional member representatives.
  • Collaborating with staff to manage participant registration.
  • Ensuring alignment with ARCUS strategic planning goals and objectives.
  • Evaluating the event’s success.
  • Partnering with the Communications and Outreach Committee to promote the event and ensure member participation.
  • Developing a comprehensive report on meeting outcomes.

Communications and Outreach Committee

The Communications and Outreach Committee supports ARCUS staff in sharing Arctic research and education updates. Key responsibilities include:

  • Highlighting the activities of ARCUS institutional members.
  • Disseminating information through webinars, newsletters, blogs, social media, and listservs.
  • Moderating online community discussions.
  • Developing content to showcase ARCUS members and affiliated projects.
  • Organizing ARCUS consortium responses to Arctic research community input.
  • Collaborating with other committees to communicate their efforts and achievements.

Connections and Community Building Committee

This committee fosters relationships to strengthen and expand ARCUS membership. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing resources like the "ARCUS Member Ambassador Toolkit" to equip advocates for ARCUS.
  • Partnering with the Proposals and Fundraising Committee to ensure projects being developed are responsive to community needs.
  • Following up on key discussion topics from the 2024 Annual Meeting.
  • Maintaining strong connections with ARCUS Institutional Members.
  • Supporting the growth of ARCUS membership.

Proposals and Fundraising Committee

This committee focuses on positioning ARCUS as a hub for Arctic research and innovation. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the formation of working groups of ARCUS members collaborating to respond to specific RFPs or funding opportunities.
  • Assisting in developing collaborative proposals aligned with the ARCUS mission.
  • Promoting knowledge sharing and highlighting funding opportunities in partnership with the Communications and Outreach Committee.
