The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in groundwater hydrology. This fixed-term position will be located in Woods Hole, Massachusetts and/or hybrid.
The postdoctoral investigator will focus on fundamental research related to Arctic coastal groundwater dynamics in a changing climate. This includes, but is not limited to, using numerical models, machine learning, and/or remote sensing to investigate Arctic coastal groundwater-surface exchange, saltwater intrusion, and permafrost thaw. Specific examples include investigating drivers of saltwater intrusion into Arctic coastal tundra or evaluating salinization effects on subsurface thermal regimes and permafrost characteristics. The investigators will have significant scientific flexibility to pursue their research ideas within these topic areas. The appointment will start as soon as possible and end 31 December 2024, with the potential to extend.

Research statements should consist of a concise statement (maximum of four pages) that addresses research interests to be pursued at WHOI; anticipated career plans, with an explanation of how postdoctoral research at WHOI would complement an applicant’s existing experience and preparation; and interests in, experience with, and/or planned commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in research, teaching, and/or service in their career, and an optional life-impact statement that describes any significant life circumstance that has impacted productivity, trajectory, or performance (e.g., COVID-19 pandemic, illness, caretaking responsibilities (one page).
