The University of Lapland announces two upcoming seminars focusing on Indigenous peoples’ rights. The first webinar, titled Indigenous People Knowledge and Rights and the Role of Society, Business, and Government: Facing challenges and building protection, will take place 9 May 2023, 9:30 a.m.– 12:00 p.m. Eastern European Summer Time (8 May 2023, 10:30 p.m.-1:00 a.m. AKST). The second webinar, titled Globalization and Indigenous Peoples: Legal mechanisms for protecting their rights, will take place 10 May 2023, 1:00-3:00 p.m. Eastern European Summer Time (10 May 2023, 2:00-4:00 a.m. AKST). Both seminars will be held in a hybrid form, physically at Thule Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, Arctic Centre and online via Microsoft Teams.
The seminars are organized by the project “Indigenous Cultures in Evolution: Governing Rights and Responsibilities through Sustainable Law and Ethics (INCLUSION)” led by the Faculty of Law of the University of Lapland.
INCLUSION is a two-year project aiming at strengthening cooperation between the higher education institutions from Finland and Peru to promote education, teaching, and learning on the law and ethical issues at the crossroad of the regulation and governance of Indigenous peoples’ rights to their culture, with particular focus on the digitization of Indigenous peoples’ cultural heritage and with a comparative analysis between the Global North (Finland and the Sámi people) and the Global South (Peru and local Indigenous peoples) approaches.
The seminars are organized in collaboration with the UArctic Law Thematic Network and the UArctic Chair in Arctic Legal Research and Education. The seminars are open for all.
