Child Trends invites applications for four positions for work with Indigenous populations (in the U.S. and U.S. territories), at different levels. These positions have multiple work locations available, as well as an option to work remotely.

Available positions and position requirements include:

Research Scientist for Indigenous Populations

  • Most suitable for PhDs less than 10 years of receiving degree;
  • Experience working with Indigenous Peoples;
  • Experience with participatory and Indigenous methodologies;
  • Interested in any of the following: public health, early childhood, health services, youth, child welfare, poverty, equity, families, juvenile justice, education, behavioral health, trauma, reproductive health, culture and well-being, and/or substance use prevention with Indigenous populations;
  • Excellent writing skills; and
  • Experience applying and winning funding a plus.

Senior Research Analyst, Quantitative

  • Most suitable for a Master’s degree with two to three years of experience;
  • Experience with statistical software packages (e.g., STATA, R) is required, including clear, detailed documentation of data cleaning, coding, and analytic decisions for future replication;
  • Excellent writing skills; and
  • Interest in research on the well-being of Black and/or Indigenous children and families and families or children in poverty.

Senior Research Analyst, Mixed Methods

  • Most suitable for a Master’s degree with two to three years of experience;
  • Develop and implement qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed methods analytic plans;
  • Excellent writing skills; and
  • Interest in research on the well-being of Black and/or Indigenous children and families and families or children in poverty.

Senior Research Assistant

  • Most suitable for BA or BS with two years of experience,
  • Writing and literature review experience,
  • Supporting qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, and
  • Interest in research on the well-being of Black and/or Indigenous children and families and families or children in poverty.

Current projects at Child Trends include school safety for Indigenous youth; positive Indian parenting; Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) programs in addressing health equity during the COVID-19 pandemic; and providing local evaluation support (training and technical assistance) to Personal Responsibility Education Programs (PREP) in Tribal communities. Future projects either in the pipeline or areas Child Trends hopes to work in include work on the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives crisis,;culture as a protective factor; language revitalization as a protective factor; work around climate change; work around Indigenous subsistence practices; work with minority serving institutions; addressing colonization and historical trauma; addressing urban healthcare needs; boarding school trauma; youth in science, technology, engineering, math, social science, economics, and art; and others.
