Stieglitz Joins NSF's Office of Polar Programs as Program Director for Arctic Natural Sciences

Marc Stieglitz has joined the Office of Polar Programs’ (OPP) Arctic Science Section’s Arctic Natural Sciences' (ANS) team of program officers, alongside Cynthia Suchman and Xujing Jia Davis.

Immediately prior to joining the National Science Foundation (NSF), Stieglitz was an associate professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Georgia Tech.

He has been active in Arctic research since the early 1990s. His research interests are at the interface of the fields of hydrology, ecology, and biogeochemistry. He also brings considerable expertise in modelling, remote sensing, and cyberinfrastructure to the position.

Stieglitz previously served in a temporary position in ANS from 2015-2018. He also served as program officer in the Arctic System Science program and played a critical role in linking the section and OPP’s Arctic community to the programs in NSF’s Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure and EarthCube.

He earned his doctorate in geological sciences from Columbia University in the City of New York.
