The Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S. (ARCUS) invites applications for an Executive Director.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Leadership and advocacy for the overall organization;
  • Management of existing programs and initiatives;
  • Financial oversight in support of day to day operations; strengthening and diversifying funding sources;
  • Administration and supervision of nationally dispersed staff in support of ARCUS operations, programs, and initiatives;
  • Support for Board of Directors activities to enable proactive and responsible governance; and
  • Oversight of strategic planning efforts to ensure that ARCUS remains responsive to the research community it serves.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in a leadership role for a research advocacy organization, preferably with an Arctic focus;
  • Experience designing and implementing annual and project budgets for a non-profit organization;
  • Experience working with National Science Foundation Cooperative Agreements;
  • Experience conducting strategic planning for an organization with an active membership comprised of individuals and institutions;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that would enable management of a dispersed staff of greater than 10 people; and
  • High degree of familiarity with the Arctic research community in the U.S.

Preferably, the candidate will:

  • Be located in Alaska;
  • Be familiar with ARCUS’ history, programs, and mission; and
  • Be process-oriented and able to work with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
