The Department of Earth Sciences at Uppsala University invites applications for a researcher in biogeochemistry, aqueous geochemistry, or a related field. This full-time, one-year position will be located om Uppsala, Sweden.
The successful candidate will analyze hydrogeochemical data from the Mackenzie River basin. The main objective is to identify and quantify possible terrestrial sources of mercury (Hg) transported in rivers across the basin (e.g., soils, permafrost, or snowmelt). The information will be used to model carbon and Hg transfer to the Beaufort Sea and its marine food web at present and in response to future changes in climate and hydrology. This project seeks to anticipate how the effects of such changes might impact the recovery of Arctic marine ecosystems from decreasing global Hg emissions from anthropogenic sources.
Applicants must have a PhD in biogeochemistry, aqueous geochemistry, hydrology, or a related discipline, and be fluent in spoken and written English. Knowledge of Hg and/or carbon biogeochemistry, as well the capacity to evaluate isotopic data, are highly desirable. Experience with Geographic Information Systems and/or hydrological modelling is advantageous.
Applications must be submitted online at https://www.uu.se/en/about-uu/join-us/details/?positionId=243143.
