Tenure Track Position/Glaciology/University of Washington
The University of Washington Graduate Program in Geophysics invites applications for a tenure-track academic faculty position.
We seek an applicant with a record of research in the theoretical analysis and field observation of physical processes controlling interaction of glaciers and ice sheets with the environment. The position will require the development of an active research program that promotes collaborations with other academic units at the University including Atmospheric Sciences, Geological Sciences and the Quaternary Research Center. The scope of research will include ice both as an active part of the earth system affecting climate and as a repository of information about past environments. The research program will involve mentoring of graduate students and undergraduates participating in the projects. Design and teaching of graduate courses in the physics of ice in the environment and
innovative undergraduate courses in environmental geophysics spanning traditional disciplines will be required activities.
The position will be at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level, depending on experience and qualifications. Applicants should have the Ph.D. degree by the start of appointment.
Applications, including a curriculum vitae, statement of research and teaching interests, and the names of three references should be sent to J. Michael Brown, Chairman, Geophysics Program, University of Washington, Box 351650, Seattle, WA 98195-1650. Priority will be given to applications received before February 16, 1998.
