Native Whaling Society Workshop To Be Held In Anchorage
A NSF-funded workshop will be co-sponsored and held at the Anchorage
Museum of History and Art on March 21-22.
The workshop "Native Whaling in the Western Arctic: Development, Spread and
Response to a Changing Environment" will include presentations about recent
whaling society research funded by NSF, contributions from natural
scientists about environmental factors influencing Native whaling, reports
about whaling in Chukotka, and discussion of future whaling research. Four
half - day panels will discuss these and related topics.
Representatives from five Alaskan whaling communities will
participate. This workshop is planned for two days just prior to the
annual meeting of the Alaskan Anthropological Association also being
held in Anchorage. The workshop is free and open to everyone.
