Faculty Position/Meteorology
The Alaska Experimental Forecast Facility (AEFF), at the University of
Alaska Anchorage (UAA) seeks to fill a full-time, tenure-track faculty
position at the assistant professor level within the Aviation Technology
Division. The successful candidate will serve as the Associate Chief
Scientist (ACS) for the AEFF and teach an undergraduate course in
weather and aviation meteorology.
It is desirable that the ACS have research experience in several of the
areas encompassing mesoscale modeling, cloud physics, remote sensing,
and boundary layer dynamics in the high-latitude/arctic setting. Of
particular interest is knowledge of the unique geophysical environments
and hazards faced by pilots in Alaska and a desire to use his/her
expertise to provide innovative solutions to Alaskan forecast issues.
Familiarity with the use of mesoscale models, in particular RAMS, in an
operational forecasting environment is considered an asset.
Qualifications include an earned Ph.D. in Atmospheric
Science/meteorology, applied physics or a closely related discipline,
and demonstrated experience/interest in teaching at primarily the
