Due to the positive feedback received, VECO Polar Resources (VPR)
continues to offer safety training courses to NSF-funded researchers in
2003. VPR will be hosting an Aviation Land and Water Survival course in
Anchorage, AK, on 23-24 Jan 03, and a Field Safety Training course in
Boulder, CO, on 10-13 Mar 03. Both courses will be facilitated by LTR
Training Systems (http://www.survivaltraining.com). The Anchorage course
will consist of two days of intensive aviation safety training including
use of life support equipment and aircraft escape. The 5-day Boulder
course will cover wilderness medicine training, helicopter/bear safety
training, and field skills specific to working in tundra areas.
These courses are sponsored through VPR by the National Science
Foundation and are open to 25 NSF-funded arctic researchers. This
includes Principal Investigators, Graduate Students, Research
Assistants, and Undergraduate Field Assistants. The course will be free
of charge for all qualified researchers. Travel assistance/per diem is
available for participants outside of the Anchorage and Boulder local
areas.
