The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) is soliciting applicants for the
Office of Naval Research sponsored-Chair in Arctic Marine Science. The
purpose of the Chair, now in its 25th year, is to promote involvement of
members of the polar science community in research problems of interest
to the naval oceanographic effort, in particular the Arctic Ocean and
its peripheral seas. We are seeking applicants for the Arctic Chair for
the academic year beginning October 1, 2003. The incumbent's principal
duties will be to conduct research of an appropriate nature, interact
with various naval organizations (e.g., the Naval Ice Center), provide
lectures to NPS students (e.g., Polar Oceanography, Underwater
Acoustics, Remote Sensing, Physical Oceanography, etc.) and possibly
assist with student thesis research.
Teaching and research ability will be the primary considerations in the
selection process. The term appointment will normally be for 12 months
(October through September) but exceptions will be considered.
Candidates from foreign countries are also welcome. Salary, benefits and
travel budgets will be commensurate with the candidate's background.
