ABSTRACT DEADLINE 14 December 2002

The 7th Conference on Polar Meteorology and Oceanography will be held
12-16 May, 2003, at the Sheraton Hyannis Resort in Hyannis,
Massachusetts. The conference is sponsored by the American Meteorology
Society and organized by the AMS committee on Polar Meteorology and
Oceanography. In addition to topics related to polar meteorology and
oceanography, the conference will feature a Joint Symposium on
High-Latitude Climate Variations organized by the AMS committee on Polar
Meteorology and Oceanography together with the committee on Climate
Variations. Further information about the conference logistics and
registration are available from the AMS website at
http://www.ametsoc.org/AMS under AMS Upcoming Meetings.

The Joint Symposium on High-Latitude Climate Variations will be
organized according to temporal and spatial scales, beginning with
sessions on large-scale, multi-decadal and longer variations,
progressing to studies of shorter and smaller-scale phenomena. We
welcome papers related to all aspects of high-latitude climate processes
and particularly solicit presentations and posters on high-latitude
paleoclimate, interactions between high and low latitudes, large-scale
circulation modes, interactions and feedbacks among oceanic and
atmospheric variables, low- versus high-latitude climate forcing, and
observations of and explanations for recent and/or abrupt change. The
format will include invited speakers, oral presentations, and posters.
Posters will be displayed prominently all week with at least two
dedicated viewing sessions.

In addition to the Joint Symposium, we also encourage papers on other
topics related to polar meteorology and oceanography. We encourage
presentations pertaining to modeling and observing cloud-radiation
processes and atmosphere/sea-ice/ocean interactions. Results from recent
field programs are also welcome. A special session highlighting
achievements of the Surface Heat Balance of the Arctic (SHEBA)
Experiment is planned.

The deadline for abstracts is 14 December 2002

Authors of accepted presentations will be notified via e-mail by 17
January 2003. A preprint volume will be prepared, and authors of invited
and accepted papers will be asked to contribute to this volume.
Instructions for formatting extended abstracts for the preprint volume
will be posted on the AMS Web site. Camera-ready manuscripts (page
length to be determined), including photos and diagrams, must be
submitted by 28 February 2003 to AMS Headquarters. Page charges will be
assessed to defray printing costs. Registrants will receive a preprint
volume at the conference. For further information please contact a
