Svalbard, Norway, invites applications for a faculty position, carrying
significant responsibilities in research and teaching, as well as
supervising Masters and Doctorate students.
UNIS is located in a modern facility in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, well
equipped with both technical and scientific equipment and laboratories.
The institution has access to infrastructure for both marine and
terrestrial field research on Svalbard. The studies at UNIS are marketed
internationally, and all classes are offered in English. UNIS is highly

the department can be found on http://www.unis.no/research/geology.
The foundation for the research at the Department of Geology is
field-related activities that exploit both the geographical position and
the natural advantages of Svalbard. With its numerous geological
exposures, landscape types and the adjacent shelf, Svalbard offers a
range of unique opportunities to study processes related to development
and infill of sedimentary basins. For the time being the general
research at the department focus on sedimentary basins at high latitude
and the processes controlling their development and infill through time
and space, including tectonics, sea-level changes, climatic changes and
present-day high-latitude terrestrial and marine processes.
The professional background of the applicant should be related to this
scientific platform and to the courses offered by the department within
Quaternary geology (especially AG-201, AG-301 and AG-306). Applicants
should have a research background in Quaternary glacial geology,
paleoclimate, glacial stratigraphy and glacial history. Previous
research experience from Svalbard or other Polar regions will be
considered an advantage. Also previous teaching and supervising
experience as well as formal pedagogical education will be considered.
It is expected that the successful applicant will carry out active,
productive research in her/his special field, will supervise Masters and
Doctoral students and will actively be involved in both research and
teaching at the department. Research, teaching and supervision at UNIS
are expected to be highly field-related.
