5-day Field Biology Instructor Position for the Audubon Expedition
Institute's Alaska Semester
Course Title: The Systematic Investigation of Local Flora and Fauna
(SILFAF)
Dates: Five days in mid or late September 2003 (flexible dates). If
necessary, the course could be divided into two sections (e.g. two days
one week and three days the next).
Level: Introductory graduate level course
Students: About 8 students beginning a two-year M.S. program in
Environmental Education (an additional 8 undergraduate students may
audit the course)
Location: Field site(s) in the Fairbanks/Denali area. School bus
available to transport the group and instructor. Overnight camping and
hiking fine. Classroom space optional.
Responsibilities: Plan course (conferring with the A.E.I. faculty);
write syllabus based on the standard SILFAF course syllabus provided by
A.E.I. (may include pre-course reading assignment for students); teach
the five-day field course engaging the students with a variety of
activities related to scientific investigation; prepare and facilitate a
final assessment (exam, student-led presentations, etc.) and determine a
grade for each student. Note: some students may not have a background
in science.
Qualifications: Masters degree in biology, ecology, or related field
(Ph.D. preferred). Experience teaching at the college level using
experiential methods.
Compensation: $1500 to $1800 (salary determined according to degrees and
experience)
