Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing projects
involving the development of ice drills for the US science program.
Individual would lead a small project team engaged in the design,
fabrication, and testing of a drill capable of coring in ice sheets to
depths of 4000 meters. Position requires the planning, monitoring, and
controlling of the technical and business aspects of the project as well
as interaction with scientists, vendors, and contractors.
Position Requirements
BS in engineering or related field and a minimum of five years of
responsible experience in design/construction project engineering or
management with proven leadership ability. Experience in the design,
fabrication, and operation of ice drilling equipment preferred. Strong
interpersonal, problem solving, and communication skills are essential.
Candidate must be familiar with mechanical and/or thermal systems and
have skill in using business software such as Word and Excel as well as
scheduling software such as Microsoft Project.
Position is located in the Ice Coring and Drilling Services unit of the
UW Space Science and Engineering Center and is 50-100% renewable
Academic Staff position. Salary is dependant on candidate's
qualifications.
