BACKGROUND
The North Slope Science Initiative (NSSI) is a federal, state, and local
multi-agency initiative to support inventory, monitoring, and research
on the North Slope of Alaska. The major emphasis of this initiative is
science to support decision making.
PORTAL
NSSI has developed a web based portal to support the initiative,
facilitate communication among stakeholders, and disseminate information
on the North Slope. The portal is also a valuable resource for finding
all types of information regarding the North Slope of Alaska. The
website can be found at the following URL:
A discussion forum has also been formed within the portal for input on
the NSSI and the Science Strategy. Stakeholders should feel free to use
this tool to provide input to the NSSI process.
WORKSHOPS
During January, the NSSI held a series of Information Exchange Workshops
in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Barrow. The workshops provided a first
look at the initiative and an opportunity for stakeholders to provide
input to the NSSI Strategy development. Presentations and initial output
from the workshops are now posted on the portal.
