China-U.S. Science at the Poles (CUSP) is an informal working group with
a mission to promote and facilitate bi- and multi-lateral programs that
encourage cooperation between China and the U.S. in the polar regions.
Scientific investigations in the polar regions have ramifications far
beyond the geographic area of the poles. A fundamental element of polar
science and research is to understand the role of and linkages between
polar processes and the Earth system.

CUSP grew out of "China-U.S. Polar Region Partnerships: The
International Polar Year 2007-2008 and Beyond," a roundtable discussion
held at the 3rd George Bush China-U.S. Conference on China and U.S.
Relations held on 23-25 October 2007, in Washington, DC.

Interested individuals are invited to view the CUSP website, in
particular the section labeled "Opportunities," which features details
about specific opportunities for partnerships between the two countries,
at:

Individuals are also invited to join CUSP, volunteer to serve on the
Executive Committee, and ask to be added to a list to receive regular
informational updates by contacting:
