The Canadian Polar Data Catalogue at the University of Waterloo invites
applications for the position of Information Services and Science
Manager. The selected candidate will be responsible for data and
information support to the polar science community. The position will
include outreach and public relations development related to polar data
of all kinds. Specific tasks will include planning the evolution of the
Canadian Cryospheric Information Network (CCIN) in response to changing
polar community needs, data rescue and archiving, developing and
implementing data sharing agreements between the polar science community
and international collaborators, the development and maintenance of the
CCIN and related websites, and outreach and education activities. The
successful candidate will be accountable to the Director of the CCIN,
Dr. Ellsworth LeDrew.
To be eligible for the position, applicants must hold an undergraduate
degree in geography or natural sciences, preferably with experience in
cryosphere sciences. S/He must have experience with relational database
management systems, database application design and architecture, and
have demonstrable experience developing and maintaining websites. The
successful applicant will have proven management and leadership skills,
excellent communication (both oral and written), analytical,
interpersonal, and organizational skills. S/He must also have an ability
to present technical papers.
