The laboratory of aquatic science and biogeochemistry at Trent
University (http://www.trentu.ca/chemistry) seeks MSc student
applications in applied environmental science, with a focus on carbon
cycling in the Arctic Ocean. In this project, the MSc student will
examine the sources and sinks of colored dissolved organic matter in the
top layer of the Western Arctic Ocean. The student will be involved in
cruise preparation, shipboard measurements, data analysis and modeling
using MATLAB.
A highly motivated student with a completed university degree in
chemistry, or environmental sciences and an interest in
interdisciplinary environmental/arctic research is sought. Experience in
fieldwork and analysis of dissolved organic matter would be an asset,
but is not a requirement.
This position offers the possibility to acquire a broad range of
analytical and conceptual skills within carbon biogeochemistry as well
as environmental chemistry. The MSc student would join an international
group of researchers and have full access to state-of-the-art field
sampling and analytical facilities. The MSc student would have the
opportunity to participate in a multi-disciplinary cruise onboard an
icebreaker.
