This workshop is designed for informal educators who work at
organizations with exhibits (e.g., aquariums, science centers), work
with the public, offer programs for students, and/or conduct teacher
workshops to connect with ocean and climate research scientists and
develop new ways to translate ocean-climate research for a wide range of
audiences. Sponsored by the Center for Ocean Sciences Education
Excellence (COSEE)-Ocean Systems and funded by the National Science
Foundation, this 1.5-day workshop is being offered in response to the
high demand from informal educators across the New England region. After
receiving training on concept mapping techniques, scientists will
present maps related to their own past or future informal education
projects. Educators will then learn how to customize the maps to their
audiences and content levels, and make a hyperlinked map with
cutting-edge multi-media tools.
Overnight housing on 1-2 June 2009 for those outside a 25-mile radius of
the Seacoast Science Center, Rye, NH, will be provided. All meals will
be paid by COSEE-Ocean Systems.
