Alaska Sea Grant College Program (Fairbanks, USA), in cooperation with
the Zoological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg,
Russia) has released an Arctic Invertebrate Key: "Illustrated Keys to
Free-Living Invertebrates of Eurasian Arctic Seas and Adjacent Deep
Waters, Volume 1." Identification keys to twelve taxonomic groups are
included in this volume: Rotifera, Pycnogonida, Cirripedia, Leptostraca,
Mysidacea, Hyperiidea, Caprellidea, Euphausiacea, Dendrobranchiata,
Pleocyemata, Anomura, and Brachyura. The volume has been edited by: S.V.
Vassilenko and V.V. Petryashov.
This book is the first in a series, translated from Russian to English,
to provide the international science community with tools to identify
marine invertebrate species in Russian arctic seas. The taxonomic
expertise is based on Russia's long history of arctic invertebrate
taxonomy, and persistent exploration of the arctic seas over the past
century. The book is a contribution to the Arctic Ocean Diversity Census
of Marine Life project (http://www.arcodiv.org) and the International
Polar Year.
