The Canadian Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) seeks to
fill several biological science positions. The Science Advisor positions
available are as follows:
- Environment and Biodiversity Science Branch
- Fish Population Science Branch
- Canadian Science Advisory Secretariat
- Aquaculture Science Branch
- Aquatic Animal Health Science Branch
- Genomics and Biotechnology Branch
Necessary Qualifications Include:
- Experience working with science issues related to the conservation
or management of aquatic species or ecosystems;
- Experience conducting research or analyzing scientific information
related to one or more of the following areas: fish population
science, fish habitat science, ecosystem science, biodiversity
science, aquaculture science, aquatic animal health, fish genomics
and biotechnology, aquatic invasive species;
- Experience evaluating scientific results and communicating complex
scientific issues or findings to a lay audience;
- Experience coordinating or collaborating with multi-disciplinary
science teams; and
- Experience developing and providing scientific advice to
stakeholders, managers, and scientists related to the conservation
and management of aquatic species or ecosystems.
The positions are based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and report to the
Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans Science Sector, Ecosystem
Science Directorate. The Ecosystem Science Directorate is responsible
for designing and implementing the national science program, and
coordinating science advice for policy, regulations, and
decision-making. Current areas of interest include species at risk,
aquatic invasive species, impacts of human activities on fish habitat,
aquaculture, stock assessment for commercial fisheries, aquatic animal
health, genomics and fish biotechnology, ecosystem science, and marine
protected areas.
Applications will be accepted from persons residing in Canada, and any
Canadian citizen residing abroad. Preference will be given to Canadian
citizens. Please indicate in your application the reason for which you
