The Canadian National Committee for the International Permafrost
Association (CNC-IPA) is organizing the 6th Canadian Conference on
Permafrost (CanCOP6) in conjunction with the 63rd Canadian Geotechnical
Conference from 12-16 September 2010 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Permafrost sessions include:

- Mackenzie Delta and Coastal Dynamics
- Climate Change and Permafrost
- Sumps and Contaminants in Permafrost
- Periglacial Processes
- Permafrost Geophysics
- Slope Stability
- Permafrost and Glaciers
- Frozen Core Dams and Mining
- Infrastructure
- General Permafrost Science

Abstracts (maximum 400 words) should be submitted by Saturday, 16
January 2010 using the online system on the GEO2010 website:

Organizers announce the "EUREKA 2010: Canadian Arctic Science at 80N"
workshop, which will be convened 13-15 January 2010 at the Lord Elgin
Hotel in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

For over 60 years, the Canadian station at Eureka, Nunavut (80N, 86.4W)
has provided a base for research in the High Arctic as well as
fulfilling its role as a weather station for Environment Canada. Over
that time a substantial body of research has been accomplished and a
large group of researchers have utilized the facility. However, because
of the varied nature and timing of the research, these groups have
rarely met together. More recently, the International Polar Year (IPY)
has provided opportunities for researchers from various international
stations to collaborate with the researchers at Eureka, particularly
those who are part of the International Arctic Systems for Observing the
Arctic (IASOA).

The aim of this workshop is to bring together the various research
groups that utilize the facilities at Eureka for science research in the
High Arctic to share research and results and to offer plans for future
research and collaboration. It is hoped that by providing this workshop
venue, collaborations can be stimulated and strengthened. Logistics for
activities at Eureka are a continual challenge and increased dialog and
sharing of resources can be very beneficial. Eureka is a unique resource
for Canada and innovative ideas for future activities and facilities
will be welcome. The workshop format will be informal with opportunity
for both presentations and discussion.

The 2010 SCAR Open Science Conference, based on the theme "Antarctica -
Witness to the Past and Guide to the Future," is scheduled for 3-6
August 2010. It will be convened at the Hotel Panamericano Buenos Aires
in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

    Polar Climate and Land Ice Working Group Meetings
    16-18 February 2010

Organizers announce the Community Climate System Model (CCSM) Polar
Climate and/or Land Ice Working Group Winter Meetings, which will be
convened 16-18 February 2010 in Boulder, Colorado.

Organizers welcome all topics related to polar observations and CCSM
modeling activities. If you would like to give a short presentation
about your work, please send a title to one of the co-chairs by Monday,
1 February 2010. The preliminary schedule is as follows:

16 February
- Morning/Afternoon: Polar Climate Working Group sessions
- Evening: Joint Reception, for both working groups

17 February
- Morning: Joint Working Group session, for both working groups
- Afternoon: Land Ice Working Group session

18 February
- Land Ice Working Group and SeaRISE sessions
