The Marine Advanced Technology Educational Center (MATE) Technical
Internship Program has funding available for an additional internship in
2010.
The MATE Center is in its twelfth year of placing college students in
internships. The Center is funded by the National Science Foundation
(NSF) to place 12-15 college students on University-National
Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) and U.S. Coast Guard (USCG)
vessels. The funding covers the students' travel and stipends. Intern
hosts only need to provide the intern with a bunk, food, and a mentor.
The MATE Center's at-sea internships are a beneficial situation for both
the marine technicians and students. The marine technicians gain
qualified free staff support and a first look at potential future
employees. Students gain valuable work experiences and skills needed for
a career in marine technology.
If you have a cruise with an extra bunk and a mentor willing to work
with a student, please contact Tami Lunsford (302-731-3035,
tlunsford [at] marinetech.org) as soon as possible.
