A24 - Extratropical and High-latitude Storms, Teleconnections, and
Changing Climate

Organizers of Session A24, "Extratropical and High-latitude Storms,
Teleconnections, and Changing Climate," announce a call for abstracts.
The session will be convened at the American Geophysical Union (AGU)
Fall Meeting, 13-17 December 2010 in San Francisco, California.

Synoptic storms and large-scale teleconnections are prominent features
characterizing daily-to-decadal atmosphere and climate variability in
extratropics and high-latitudes. Storms bring extreme weather to the
extratropical and polar regions. Teleconnection patterns play a
modulating role in storm activity. Storms and teleconnections have
demonstrated systematic variations in their intensities, frequencies,
and geographic locations under changing climate. This session will
provide a platform to present new progresses on the studies of
extratropical and high-latitude storm activity, teleconnections, and
their scale interactions in a changing climate, as well as associated
ecosystem and societal impacts.

The abstract submission deadline for this and all other sessions is
Thursday, 2 September 2010 at 11:59 pm Eastern Daylight Time. To submit

GC07 - Bringing Together Environmental, Socio-Economic, and
Climatic Change Studies in Northern Eurasia

Organizers of Session GC07, "Bringing Together Environmental,
Socio-Economic, and Climatic Change Studies in Northern Eurasia,"
announce a call for abstracts. The session will be convened at the
American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting, 13-17 December 2010 in
San Francisco, California.

Organizers invite presentations on the biogeochemical cycles, the
surface energy budget and water cycle, and climate and ecosystems
interactions in Northern Eurasia (land cover and land use, atmospheric
aerosols, soil, and permafrost changes that affect and are being
affected by climate and ecosystems changes), 'human dimension' that
includes, in addition to impact studies of environmental changes, the
feedback studies of societal and land use changes on regional and global
environment and climate, and tools to address the Northern Eurasia
studies. The particular foci are on integrative multi-disciplinary
studies associated with the Northern Eurasia Earth Science Partnership
Initiative (NEESPI).

GC14 - The Use of Observations for Evaluating CMIP5/IPCC
Simulations

Organizers of Session GC14, "The Use of Observations for Evaluating
CMIP5/IPCC Simulations," announce a call for abstracts. The session will
be convened at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting, 13-17
December 2010 in San Francisco, California.

There is a need to provide researchers who will evaluate the CMIP5/IPCC
climate model results easy access to analogous sets (variables,
temporal, spatial frequency, etc.) of observational data sets. This
session will focus on the end-to-end distribution and use of
observations and techniques needed to fully evaluate climate models in
the next IPCC. Presentations on methods for evaluating global climate
models and the necessary observational data are encouraged. The use of
web based data interfaces and the Earth System Grid will also be
considered. Submissions on what can be learned from comparisons of model
output to data and methods for isolating the sources of disagreements
between models and observations will also be welcome.

REMINDER: GC23 - The Future of Polar Science: The Path Beyond the
IPY

The National Research Council's Polar Research Board (PRB), organizers
of Session GC23, "The Future of Polar Science: The Path Beyond the IPY,"
announce a call for abstracts. The session will be convened at the
American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting, 13-17 December 2010 in
San Francisco, California.

The polar regions are at the forefront of modern environmental change,
currently experiencing the largest and fastest changes in climate and
environment. This session, convened by the PRB, which served as the U.S.
National Committee for IPY, will explore the future of arctic and
Antarctic science beyond International Polar Year 2007-08.

Presentations will look at where we are now and what is next in
understanding physical and biological systems, the role of the poles in
the evolution of global systems, social changes in northern regions,
education and outreach, and the interface between science and policy.
Presentations from students and multiple disciplines are encouraged.
