    Toolik Field Station, Alaska

The University of Alaska Fairbanks seeks applications from enthusiastic
persons who are interested in summer ecological field research in
northern Alaska. This is a full-time, temporary position (June through
August 2011) that will be based at Toolik Field Station, Alaska.

Responsibilities will include collecting data on plant phenological
events, small-mammal population dynamics, and physical lake parameters
as well as data entry and organization under general supervision.
Assistance with other tasks related to the overall goals of the
long-term environmental monitoring program and routine lab equipment
maintenance may be necessary. The position will report to the Toolik
manager of the Environmental Data Center.

Qualifications include:

- The ability to participate in rigorous fieldwork under sometimes
adverse conditions;
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Computer skills sufficient to assist with data entry in Excel and
word processing in Word; and
- Previous college-level work in biological sciences.

  1. Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada seeks Postdoctoral
    Candidate for Visiting Fellowship
    Remote Sensing of Ocean Color

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada offers a visiting
fellowship for a postdoctoral position in remote sensing of ocean color.

The successful candidate will work on understanding the distribution and
variability of inherent optical properties in the Canadian Arctic.

Candidates should hold a PhD in marine sciences or remote sensing, and
have experience with the analysis of optical data. Candidates with a
background in polar marine research and experience at sea in biological
oceanography data collection are encouraged to apply. Primary
responsibilities will include analysis of inherent and apparent optical
properties, Arctic Ocean color data, ship-based or camp-based data
collection, and mapping of ocean color derived estimates.

The U.S. Geological Survey seeks leaders for three Regional Climate
Science Centers (CSC). There is a position available in each of the
following locations: Raleigh, North Carolina; Corvallis, Oregon; and
Anchorage, Alaska.

As scientists within the National Climate Change and Wildlife Science
organization, some of the positions' specific duties will include:

- Develop and deliver science and management strategies for cultural
and natural resources at a regional level.
- Establish resource management partnerships and negotiate research
needs and priorities.
- Supervise a staff of up to five research scientists and other
support positions.
- Identify national climate change science needs relative to the
impact on regional natural and physical science resources.
- Chair a regional CSC advisory board to ensure decision-making on
science priorities at the regional level are implemented.
