Martha Raynolds has been studying arctic vegetation for the past 30 years. She received her undergraduate degree in Geography from Dartmouth College, followed by a M.S. in Botany from Virginia Tech. She went to Alaska in 1982 for the summer, and has lived there ever since. She has worked for private consulting firms, the federal government and has done research at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She completed a PhD on the geobotany of arctic vegetation at the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2009. Her work has taken her to various parts of the Arctic, including the North Slope of Alaska, the Canadian Arctic Islands and Yakutia in Siberia.
