I have worked in the field of Paleoceanography for 38 years, where paleoproxy calibration is all important. I am an expert in foraminiferal taxonomy, instrument deployment, design and fabrication, isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS), data quality and development of new isotopic standards and calibration protocols. I have spent 5 years of my life at sea on research vessels, collecting deep-sea sediment cores, sediment trap material and water. My experience in scientific academia is a unique combination of hands-on and managerial experience with many types of instruments and all levels of students from high school to PhD. It has been my privilege to manage 3 world-class academic analytical laboratories where I have always been responsible for safety, budgets, training, hiring, instrument troubleshooting and repair, external client communication and data quality. I am recognized for my contribution to the improvement of IRMS instruments with the publication of Ostermann and Curry, 2000. My skill set has evolved and expanded with each position I have held, from extensive teaching, mentoring with extensive technical skills, to now include multiple management roles in building design and construction, budget implementation and oversight, changing school administration environments, strategic planning and the ability to work with Heads of School, University Directors & Central facilites.
