NSF's Division of Polar Programs (PLR) in the Geosciences Directorate is
seeking an Environmental Policy Specialist in the Polar Environment,
Safety and Health (PESH) Section. This position (PLR-2015-0006) is
full-time and permanent, and will be based in Arlington, Virginia.

The incumbent assists with a variety Antarctic Treaty related
environmental activities, including coordinating intercessional contact
groups, compiling and integrating comments into issue papers and draft
reports, and preparing papers that document U.S. Antarctic Program
plans. The Specialist also assists with the development and review of
management plans for Specially Managed Areas and Specially Protected
Areas in Antarctica. Coordinating with other U.S. government agencies,
the incumbent assists in the preparation of documents for submission to
the Antarctic Treaty System on behalf of the U.S. government. The
incumbent also serves as the Antarctic Conservation Act Permit Officer,
managing the permit process from submission to final reports and
coordinates U.S. government input to the annual exchange of information
required under the Antarctic Treaty.

Applicants must have a PhD in biology, ecology, or physical sciences,
plus four or more years of successful research, research administration,
and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position; OR a Master's
degree in biology, ecology, or physical sciences, plus six or more years
of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial
experience pertinent to the position. Appointment is contingent upon
satisfactory completion of a physical examination according to the
standards used for USAP medical/dental screening for travel to
Antarctica.
