The Journal of Geophysical Research (JGR): Earth Surface, published on
behalf of the American Geophysical Union, seeks candidates for the
position of Editor-In-Chief. The position is a four-year term.

The JGR-Earth Surface journal focuses on the physical, chemical, and
biological processes that affect the form and function of the surface of
the solid Earth over all temporal and spatial scales, including fluvial,
eolian, and coastal sediment transport; hill-slope mass movements;
glacial and periglacial activity; weathering and pedogenesis; and
surface manifestations of volcanism and tectonism.

The Editor-in-Chief (EIC) is the principal architect of the scientific
content of the journal. The successful candidate will be an
active scientist with high editorial standards and strong leadership
skills, an active scientist,and well-regarded in his/her discipline. The
EIC must be active in soliciting the best science from the best
scientists to be published in the journal. Working with the other
editors and AGU staff, the EIC is the arbiter of the content of the
journal. Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Act as an ambassador to the author, editor, reviewer, and scientist community;
  • Set the strategy for the journal;
  • Lead the editor selection process;
  • Assign and balance review work-load;
  • Decisions of ethics;
  • Review and contribute to periodic monitoring reports; and
  • Conduct and attend meetings.

  1. Skaggs Scientist in Residency Fellowship

The Sitka Sound Science Center seeks applicants for the Skaggs Alaska
Scientists in Residency Fellowship (SIRF). The fellowship, available to
mid-career scientists working in terrestrial or interdisciplinary
sciences, will support one scientist per year in a mini-sabbatical based
in Sitka, Alaska.

The Sitka Sound Science Center is a nonprofit organization whose mission
is to increase understanding and awareness of terrestrial and aquatic
ecosystems in the Gulf of Alaska through education and research.
Scientists who are awarded the Skaggs Alaska SIRF will spend three weeks
conducting research, preparing for publication, writing or collaborating
with a colleague, and one week participating in informal science
education with the public in Sitka, Alaska.

Applicants will be selected based on their passion and ability to
communicate science to a variety of audiences, research relevancy to
Alaska, and their field of interest. Skaggs Alaska Fellowship award
covers travel, living quarters, office space, and a stipend.
International applicants are welcome.
