The deadline to submit abstracts to one of the scientific sessions
planned for the conference 'In the Spirit of Rovaniemi Process' has been
extended to Saturday, 15 June 2013. The conference will be held 2-4
December 2013 in Rovaniemi, Finland.

The papers should address at least one of the three cross-cutting
themes: Arctic Cities and global processes; Management and governance in
the Arctic; and Arctic together with non-Arctic. Specific scientific
sessions are as follows:

- Rovaniemi Process: past, present, future (Plenary)
- Arctic responses to global environmental problems
- People and extractive industries
- Tourism in the Arctic
- The Arctic in global economy
- Climate change in the Arctic
- Indigenous peoples in cities
- Arctic global flows

PhD students are welcome to present a poster referring to one of the
sessions and addressing cross-cutting themes. Abstracts (250 word max)
should be emailed (rovaniemi.process [at] ulapland.fi) with the title
"Rovaniemi Process Conference - Abstract Proposal" and include the
author's affiliation and contact information, as well as to which
session the paper is submitted.

Extended abstract submission deadline: Saturday, 15 June 2013.

    Climate Change in Northern Territories

Organizers of the conference entitled, "Climate Change in Northern
Territories: Sharing Experiences, Exploring New Methods, and Assessing
Socio-Economic Impacts," announce that early registration is now
available. The conference, organized by the European Observation Network
(ESPON)/Evidence in a North European Context (ENECON) in cooperation
with the Northern Research Forum (NFR), will convene 22-23 August 2013
in Akureyri, Iceland.

The ENECON project addresses challenges and opportunities facing
territorial development and spatial planning policies, and practices,
particular to the vast territory of the very northern part of Europe.
The goal of the conference is to turn attention to territorial
challenges and the need for future research in the northernmost regions
of Europe and the Arctic; and the challenge of translating scientific
knowledge into action. The conference aims to bring together researchers
who have similar backgrounds but focus on different problems and
different methodological approaches. Regional and local stakeholders as
well as state politicians and policymakers are also target groups for
the conference.

Subthemes of the conference include:

- Territorial socio-economic impacts of climate change,
- Methodologies for assessing socio-economic impact, and
- Adaptation to climate change in regions and local
communities--examining methods and sharing knowledge.
