  1. New Version of Arctic Ocean Grid Released
    International Bathymetric Chart of the Arctic Ocean (IBCAO)

The International Bathymetric Chart of the Arctic Ocean (IBCAO)
initiative has released a new bathymetric grid of the Arctic Ocean. The
IBACO grid Version 3.0 is now available for downloading along with
geo-referenced images and maps that are suitable for plotting.

The goal of the IBCAO initiative is to develop a digital database of all
available bathymetric data north of latitude 64 degrees north, for use
by mapmakers, researchers, institutions, and others whose work requires
a detailed and accurate knowledge of the depth and the shape of the
arctic seabed. Initiated in 1997, this initiative is endorsed by the
Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), the International
Arctic Science Committee (IASC), the International Hydrographic
Organization (IHO), the General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans (GEBCO),
and the U.S. National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC).

IBCAO Version 3.0 represents the largest improvement of the grid since
1999. Built using an improved gridding algorithm, the new version is on
a 500-meter spacing, revealing greater details of the arctic seafloor
than previous versions.

The Arctic Institute of North America (AINA) announces publication of
the March 2013 issue of the journal ARCTIC, Volume 66, Number 1. A
non-profit membership organization and multidisciplinary research
institute of the University of Calgary, AINA's mandate is to advance the
study of the North American and circumpolar Arctic through the natural
and social sciences, as well as the arts and humanities, and to acquire,
preserve, and disseminate information on physical, environmental, and
social conditions in the North. Created as a binational corporation in
1945, the Institute's United States Corporation is housed at the
University of Alaska Fairbanks.

AINA members have the options of receiving ARCTIC in print, online, or
