GD2.2 Geothermal Heat Flow: Linking Earth's Deep Interior and
Surface Processes
European Geoscience Union General Assembly
7-12 April 2013
Vienna, Austria
Organizers of Session GD2.2, "Geothermal Heat Flow: Linking Earth's Deep
Interior and Surface Processes," announce a call for abstracts. The
session will be convened at the European Geoscience Union (EGU) General
Assembly, 7-12 April 2013 in Vienna, Austria.
This session will focus on how crustal heatflow influences and is
influenced by interaction with the earth's climate, oceans, and ice
sheets. Contributions are invited in the following topics related to
crustal heatflow:
- Heat flow measurements;
- Modeling of heat transport processes within the earth's interior;
- Corrections to heat flow measurements due to paleoclimate and
regional topography;
- Measurements as constraints on the thermal state of the
lithosphere and mantle;
- Interaction between the solid earth, the cryosphere, and ocean
dynamics; and
- Influence of mantle convection and mantle plumes on the thermal
state of the lithosphere and regional heat flow.
Abstract submission deadline: Midnight CET on Tuesday, 17 January 2012.

2013 George Wright Society Conference on Parks, Protected Areas, and
Cultural Sites
11-15 March 2013
Denver, Colorado
Organizers of the 2013 George Wright Society Conference on Parks,
Protected Areas, and Cultural Sites (GWS2013) announce the availability
of travel scholarships. The conference will convene 11-15 March 2012 in
Denver, Colorado.
The conference will provide an interdisciplinary forum for Native and
non-Native people to gather and discuss issues and innovations in
place-based stewardship. Portions of this meeting are designed to meet
the needs of Native professionals, community activists, and students.
The Native-focused parts of the conference program include papers,
posters, sharing circles, a Native Film Night, and informal networking
opportunities.
Two different travel support programs are available:
The George Melendez Wright Student Travel Scholarships encourage
minority students from diverse ethnic, racial, and cultural backgrounds
to participate in the Society's biennial conferences and enhance their
interest in the conservation and preservation of parks, protected areas,
and cultural sites throughout the world. Applicants must be a member of
an underrepresented minority group; a resident of the U.S., Canada, or
Mexico; and enrolled in an institution of higher education. Further
eligibility and application details are available at:
http://www.georgewright.org/gws2013_gmwsts.The Native Participant Travel Grant Program offers travel grants to
support the participation of Native people at GWS2013. The GWS would
like to promote a continuing conversation between Native and non-Native
people involved in placed-based stewardship of natural and cultural
heritage. Indigenous people from Canada, Mexico, or the U.S. who are
involved in the protection, management, or study of land, its
biological/cultural systems and features, or Native land rights are
eligible to apply. For further information or to apply, please go to:
