fifth webinar in the Fall 2012 Career Development Webinar Series,
scheduled for Tuesday, 6 November 2012 at 5:00 p.m. GMT. For information
about alternate time zones, please see:

This week's webinar is entitled "Operating Safe and Successful Field
Research Campaigns in the Polar Regions." It will be presented by Seth
Campbell of the University of Maine, School of Earth and Climate
Sciences & Climate Change Institute and the U.S. Army ERDC-Cold Regions
Research and Engineering Lab. Polar scientists work in some of the most
amazing, yet also remote and potentially dangerous environments on the
planet. What does it take to design, safely operate, and successfully
complete field work in such remote areas? This webinar and open
discussion will provide insight into remote fieldwork from the early
stages of planning to the safe completion of the project with emphasis
on real world mistakes and successes, unexpected field challenges, and
criteria that may be used for selection of field assistants.
