The National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) seeks a project manager
for Operation IceBridge. The position will be filled as a Professional
Research Assistant at the University of Colorado Boulder and is based in
Boulder, Colorado.
Operation IceBridge is a high-profile NASA Mission conducting
multisensor airborne campaigns to study ice sheet and sea ice conditions
in Greenland, the Arctic Ocean, Alaska, and Antarctica. NSIDC makes the
IceBridge mission data available to the scientific community, improving
data search and discovery tools, increasing data usability, and
preserving the data for future research. Duties for this position will
include ensuring that products are handled according to relevant
schedules and procedures; data systems planning; serving as the
stakeholder in defining and prioritizing work for IceBridge sanctioned
development activities; product augmentation; and reporting and
communication.
Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree (advanced degree preferred),
preferably in an earth science area. Supervisory and project management
experience, science data management user/customer service experience,
strong communication skills, and computer literacy (preferably in a
LINUX environment) are required.

- Clark University seeks PhD Student
Ocean-Ice Sheet Interactions

The Graduate School of Geography at Clark University invites
applications for a PhD research assistantship in satellite remote
sensing of ocean-ice sheet interactions across West Greenland. The
position will be based in Worcester, Massachusetts.
This NSF-funded project seeks to further the understanding of
ocean-ice-atmosphere interactions around the Jakobshavn Isbrae and Disko
Bay region of West Greenland, with a particular focus on the role of sea
surface temperature and sea ice variability in modulating outlet glacier
behavior and ice sheet/cap mass balance. Ice coring work to reconstruct
past environmental conditions will take place over two field seasons.
Candidates should have strong interests in satellite remote sensing,
quantitative analysis, and remote fieldwork. The successful candidate
will join the Polar Science Research Laboratory at Clark
(http://wordpress.clarku.edu/kfrey/) and will have the opportunity to
work collaboratively with colleagues from the Woods Hole Oceanographic
Institution, Wheaton College, and Milton Academy.

- University of Sheffield seeks Postdoctoral Researcher

The Department of Geography at the University of Sheffield seeks a
postdoctoral research fellow to participate in a Natural Environment
Research Council (NERC) funded project entitled "Permafrost Catchments
in Transition: Hydrological Controls on Carbon Cycling and Greenhouse
Gas Budgets." The position will be based in Sheffield, United Kingdom.
The principal objective of this post is to quantify and understand the
biotic/abiotic controls on carbon fluxes in permafrost environments,
with particular emphasis on the interface between the water and carbon
cycles, and on the implications for global radiative-forcing. The
successful candidate will become part of a world-class UK and
international research team, but have specific responsibility for
aspects of the work-program dealing with plant-soil interactions, and
with surface-atmosphere exchanges of carbon dioxide and methane. The
team will measure the capture of carbon from the atmosphere, its
distribution in plants and soils, and the biological, physical, and
chemical controls of carbon transport and delivery from soils to
freshwaters, and ultimately to the atmosphere as carbon dioxide and
methane.
Candidates should have a PhD in ecology or biogeochemistry, or another
relevant area of environmental/ecological science, and have experience
of designing, developing, and publishing research. This post is
fixed-term with a start date of 1 January 2013 and an end date of 31
December 2015.

- University of Iceland seeks Geophysicist

The Institute of Earth Sciences at the University of Iceland announces a
vacancy for a geophysicist, within the field of glaciology. The position
will be based in Reykjavik, Iceland.
The successful candidate will join the University's glaciology group,
and is expected to contribute to the their ongoing research in
glaciology. Research fields are varied, and include mapping of the
surface and bedrock topography of Icelandic glaciers, ice dynamics,
remote sensing of glaciers, glacier surges, and much more.
Applicants must have a PhD in geophysics, or in other disciplines with a
similar background in physics and mathematics. Experience in collection
and analyses of data from glaciers and good communication skills are
required.
