The Science Advisory Board (SAB) of the U.S. Ice Drilling Program Office
(IDPO) is soliciting nominations for a senior scientist to join the SAB.
Nominations must be submitted by Saturday, 20 October 2012.
The IDPO and the Ice Drilling Design and Operations group (IDDO) were
established by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to coordinate
long-term and short-term planning in collaboration with the U.S. ice
science community and to be the principle supplier of ice drilling and
ice coring support and expertise for NSF-funded research.
The IDPO convenes the SAB for the purpose of forming and updating a
long-range science plan that addresses multiple aspects of ice core and
other ice science and associated technology. The SAB provides guidance
to the IDPO to ensure that the needs of the scientific community are
effectively met. The SAB consists of eight to ten active scientists and
engineers with expertise covering the range of activities that require
scientific ice drilling. Members can be from the international community
and international scientists can be invited to meetings. SAB members
typically serve one three-year term and may be asked to serve additional
terms based on community needs.
The SAB particularly seeks nominations of scientists who use ice cores to
study the chemistry of ancient atmospheres. Other areas of expertise
will also be considered. Self-nominations are welcome.
