Those interested in this special session on polynas should contact one of
the conveners below or visit the website: http://www.aslo.org/copenhagen2000
Dear Colleague,
We want to bring to your attention a special session to be held during the
upcoming meeting of the American Society of Limnology and Oceanography
(ASLO) in Copenhagen.
You are invited to submit an abstract for an oral or poster presentation
to the Special Session on "Biological, chemical, physical and
sedimentological interactions in polynyas" to be held during the ASLO
meeting in Copenhagen, 5-9 June 2000.
The conveners of the session are
Prof. Louis Legendre Prof. Heidemarie Kassens
Laval University, Canada GEOMAR, Germany
louis.legendre [at] bio.ulaval.ca hkassens [at] geomar.de
The programme of the meeting is available on the following web site:
http://www.aslo.org/copenhagen2000
The special session on polynyas is numbered SS38. Its description reads
as follows:
Polynyas are areas of open waters in the polar ice pack. The physical
processes responsible for the opening of polynyas, i.e. the influx of
(sensible) heat or/and winds (latent heat), determine the physical and
hydrodynamic characteristics of polynyas. These largely govern the
biological and chemical processes within and downstream of polynyas,
that are reflected in the benthos and sediments. The session will explore
biological, chemical, physical and sedimentological interactions in both
Arctic and Antarctic polynyas.
The deadline for abstract submission is 15 January 2000. The easiest way
to submit an abstract is to use the above web site.
Louis Legendre and Heidemarie Kassens look forward to seeing you in
Copenhagen this coming June.
