In conjunction with the 7th Arctic Science Summit Week (ASSW), which
will be held in Kunming, China on 17-24 April 2005, the Pacific Arctic
Group (PAG) of the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC), along
with hosts Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Administration (CAA) and the
Polar Research Institute of China, will hold a PAG symposium entitled
"Circulation and Ecology of the Pacific Arctic Shelves and Connection to
Deep Basins."
The Pacific Arctic Group of IASC has the mission to serve as a Pacific
Arctic regional partnership to plan, coordinate, and collaborate on
science activities of mutual interest.
The goals of PAG are:
- to identify gaps in knowledge and/or research priorities and seek
means to address them;
- to facilitate and coordinate science operations among PAG member states
- to promote and facilitate data accessibility and integrated databases;
- to serve as a forum for information exchange; and
- to establish and maintain communication with other relevant science
organizations.
Pursuant to these goals the PAG will organize this symposium to
- identify the scientific questions relevant to the physical and
ecological environment of the Pacific Arctic Region
- identify the ongoing and future oceanographic programs of the Pacific
Arctic Region
- promote the sharing of hydrometeorological data and creation of
databases
- provide a forum for the presentation of individual research studies.
