The successful candidate will work on NSF sponsored projects on the
flux, fate and transformation of organic carbon across the land/ocean
interface.
The position responsibilities include field sampling, lab experiments,
degradation, molecular characterization and size fractionation of
natural organic matter, manuscript preparation for publication, and
other duties as required.
This appointment is expected to be for a period of up to 3 years
duration. The initial appointment will be for one year with
continuations based on contributions to the project. A background
investigation will be conducted on the final candidates.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree (already received, or having completed all requirements
and awaiting graduation) in a discipline appropriate to organic
biogeochemistry, carbon cycle, soil organic chemistry, and related
fields.
- Sufficient relevant experience to contribute significantly to a
specific project.
- Experience with the use of computers and other appropriate equipment
to conduct the research proposed.
- Physically fit and willing to work in severe environments of the
arctic coastal zone.
- Ability to operate power tools to excavate permafrost.
- Ability to carry 40 lb. sample bags across the tundra.
