Dear Colleague,
You are invited to participate in the ARCUS 17th Annual Meeting and
Arctic Forum 2005 in Washington, D.C., 19-20 May 2005. All sessions will
be held at the Wyndham Washington D.C. Hotel located in downtown
Washington, D.C.
The focus of this year's Arctic Forum is "Arctic Climate Change and
Public Literacy: What's At Stake?"
Presentations from a diverse range of perspectives will address the
urgency of arctic climate change and its impacts and the need to better
inform policymakers and the public.
Presentations will include information on:
- The needs and perspectives of stakeholders and regional decision
makers in the Arctic;
- Working with media to convey the message of arctic climate change;
- Raising the profile of the arctic environment with teachers, schools,
and communities to encourage awareness and interest.
The Forum will be co-chaired by Stephanie Pfirman chair of the
Department of Environmental Science at Barnard College. A second
co-chair will be confirmed soon.
In addition to highlighting current research and policy issues relevant
to the Arctic, through the Arctic Forum, the ARCUS annual meeting serves
to gather together members of the arctic research community, key agency
personnel and policy makers, as well as ARCUS member institution
representatives, Board of Directors, and staff.
