ICARP II will take place 10-13 November 2005 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The
conference promises to be a pivotal meeting for those interested in the
future of Arctic research. Occurring just 18 months prior to the kickoff
of the International Polar Year (IPY), the outcome of ICARP II will have
important implications for the funding and planning of national and
international arctic research agendas leading up to, during, and
following the IPY.

Thirteen thematic scientific working groups have been developing science
plans which address critical research needs, gaps in knowledge, and
requirements for long-term observations. These plans will be posted on
the ICARP II website (http://www.icarp.dk) by 1 October 2005, six weeks
before the conference. The plans will be tabled for further discussion
and amendments at the conference, with particular emphasis on
interdisciplinary linkages, indigenous needs, and socio-economic goals.
The revised plans will be unveiled at the Arctic Science Summit Week in
April 2006 and available for adoption and implementation immediately
thereafter.

There are many opportunities for those interested in the Arctic to
influence the course of scientific research, but participation in ICARP
II will be one of the most effective ways to have your voice heard and
make an impact on the direction of arctic research for the coming
decade.

ICARP II is sponsored by 18 different leading arctic organizations, and
is hosted by the Danish Polar Center.
