The Climate, Ocean and Sea Ice Modeling (COSIM) project at Los Alamos
National Laboratory is seeking a new team member to participate in the
development, diagnosis, and assessment of coupled climate models and
their component models, emphasizing the ocean and sea ice components.
The work will involve global simulations using COSIM-developed models
(POP, CICE, HYPOP, HYCOM) to evaluate the models both at high resolution
and in a coupled climate model context.
Applicants should be proficient in one or more of the following areas:
(1) development of ocean, sea ice, or coupled climate models, with an
emphasis on innovative numerical methods and algorithms;
(2) diagnosis and analysis of output from such models and comparison
with observational datasets for the purpose of model verification and
validation;
(3) development of improved physical parameterizations for these three
types of models.
Candidates having expertise in more than one of these areas will be at
an advantage. The successful applicant must have substantial experience
working with large climate-related codes on high-performance parallel
computers and must be fluent in Fortran programming. The demonstrated
ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and interact well
with other team members is also desired.
The applicant should have a Ph.D. in oceanography, atmospheric science,
applied math, or related field or equivalent combination of relevant
education and experience as determined by the Staff Member Review
Committee.
