The Canadian Coastal Science and Engineering Association (CCSEA) invites
you to the 12th Canadian Coastal Conference to be held 6-9 November 2005
in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
The theme of the conference is "The State of the Natural and Engineered
Coast" and "Future Directions in Nearshore Dynamics." The organizing
committee is currently soliciting abstracts for oral and poster
presentations. Suggested themes include:
- The State of Canada's Coast
- Engineering Practices
- Arctic and Remote Coasts
- Coastal Observing Systems
- Dynamics, Processes, and Change
- Monitoring
- Coastal Hazards and Climate Change
- GIS and Remote Sensing
- Planning and Management
- Numerical and Physical Modelling
Papers on other coastal topics are also welcome.
A special one-day session will be held on November 7th to mark the
retirement of Tony Bowen from Dalhousie University. This session will be
devoted to outstanding questions in nearshore dynamics and future
directions for nearshore processes research. The session will include a
number of invited talks, but other contributed presentations are
strongly encouraged. There will also be a special event honoring Tony's
many contributions to nearshore and coastal oceanography.
A major initiative to reinvigorate northern research was launched with
the funding of ArcticNet, at the same time as government recognized the
need for better understanding of issues related to northern sustainable
development and a growing awareness of climate change impacts in the
north. It therefore seems an opportune time to hold a session on arctic
coastal processes, climate impacts in northern and other remote regions
of Canada, and the knowledge gaps that need to be addressed.
