You are invited to participate in the International Glaciological
Society Symposium on Sea Ice to be held from 5-9 December 2005 in
Dunedin, New Zealand. Succeeding the very successful "International
Symposium on Sea Ice and its Interactions", held in Fairbanks, Alaska
during June 2000, the overarching goal of this symposium is to promote
interdisciplinary discussion of the geophysics of sea ice and its
interactions with the ocean, atmosphere, and biosphere. Suggested topics
include modelling and observations, at all scales, of the growth,
deformation, motion, and decay of sea-ice, as well as its role as a
habitat. Abstracts are also solicited on the response of sea ice to
climate through atmosphere-ice-ocean interactions. The deadline for
receipt of abstracts is Monday, 30 May 2005.
Dunedin is situated in the beautiful countryside of the South Island of
New Zealand and is home to the country's oldest university. It is the
capital of the province of Otago, and is close to the Otago Peninsula
which is a sanctuary for wildlife, principally penguins, seals, and
Royal albatrosses. Participants may also wish to exploit the proximity
to Central Otago with its spectacular mountain scenery. Travel and
accommodation information are available on the website.
