The ARCUS 17th Annual Meeting and Arctic Forum 2005 will be held 19-20
May in downtown Washington, D.C.

PLEASE NOTE that the meeting venue has changed. The Arctic Forum and the
Council Forum sessions will be held at the National Association of Home
Builders conference facility located at 1201 15th Street, NW Washington,
D.C. directly across the street from the Wyndham Washington D.C. Hotel.
All lodging arrangements at the Wyndham Washington D.C. Hotel remain the
same.

Additionally, the annual banquet has been replaced this year by a
special reception featuring a Greenlandic exhibition, posters on arctic
research, buffet, and a hosted bar. The exhibition will include a talk
by the Honorable Henriette Rasmussen, Greenland Minister for Culture,
Education, Research, and Church, and a special presentation by the
Aavaat Choir. The Aavaat Choir sings both traditional and modern
Greenlandic music and will perform in their national costume. The
reception begins at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, 19 May. The public is welcome
and there is no charge for attending.

ARCTIC FORUM
The focus of this year's Arctic Forum is "Arctic Climate Change and
Public Literacy: What's at Stake?" The Forum is co-chaired by Dr.
Stephanie Pfirman of the Department of Environmental Science at Barnard
College and Dr. Bruce Forbes of the Arctic Centre at the University of
Lapland.

The Arctic Forum will gather scientists, agency representatives,
community members, and media representatives to discuss issues relevant
to arctic climate change science, communication, public perception,
policy, and education.

POSTER ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
The poster session will be held prior to and during the reception on
Thursday, 19 May. Posters on any aspect of arctic research are
encouraged and will be accepted upon review. You are invited to submit
an abstract to present one or more posters through the online submission
form at:

Abstract Submission Deadline: Friday, 6 May 2005.

COUNCIL FORUM
The Council Forum, scheduled for the afternoon of Friday, 20 May, will
feature a workshop lead by experts in the fields of media outreach and
policy communication. The workshop will provide participants with
practical information on communicating scientific research effectively
to a variety of audiences.

REGISTRATION
The registration deadline for participants requiring accommodations at
the Wyndham Washington D.C. Hotel is Friday, 29 April 2005.
