This is a tenure track faculty position for an interdisciplinary
glaciologist/geophysicist with expertise in glacier and ice sheet, solid
earth, and ocean interactions who will complement UAF's existing
expertise in glacier dynamics. The successful incumbent will address
interdisciplinary problems in glaciology, such as the response of
glaciers to climate change and the contribution of glaciers and ice
sheets to sea level change. Applicants who address these or closely
related glaciological problems using field observations,
theoretical/modeling studies, or both and candidates who include, or
plan to include, Alaska and arctic glaciers in their research program
are encouraged to apply. This position is a joint appointment between
the Geology and Geophysics Department and the Geophysical Institute at
the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The incumbent will be expected to
teach a graduate-level class in Glaciology, plus an additional course to
be determined.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Geology/Geophysics or a related field
and must be capable of maintaining a strong, externally-funded research
program. Applicants should have the ability and willingness to teach
courses at the graduate and undergraduate level. For purposes of
collective bargaining, this position is represented by a union. The
successful candidate will be obligated to pay an agency fee to the union
as a condition of their employment. A background investigation will be
completed on the final candidate once a job offer has been made.
