"Bridging the Poles: Education Linked with Research"

The "Bridging the Poles" workshop of June of 2004, hosted by Stephanie
Pfirman and Robin Bell, brought educators, scientists and media
specialists together to focus on building stronger partnerships between
arctic and antarctic communities, and between education and polar
research. The workshop goals were to inspire the next generation of
scientists, engineers and leaders, and engage and educate the general
public. The subsequent report and website identify strategies that
enable polar scientists to conduct meaningful education and outreach,
and educators to include polar research in their classrooms and outreach
activities.

It is hoped that this resource will be useful in developing future
directions for polar education, and will be used to maximize the
educational impact of the International Polar Year beginning in 2007.
The contributed ideas section lists individuals who are interested in
continuing to develop concepts in specific areas. E-mail contact
information for individuals is included in the Participant Contact List
listed as a sidebar on the Introduction Page.
