You are invited to submit an abstract to the following special session
at this year's American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting:
ED 12: Polar Bears and Penguins are the Tip of the Iceberg: Education,
Outreach, and Communication Strategies for the International Polar Year
and Beyond
Session Description:
The upcoming International Polar Year (IPY) 2007-2008 builds on a
125-year legacy of Earth and space science exploration and provides a
unique opportunity to communicate to diverse audiences the global impact
of polar regions and showcase the details of how the science is
conducted. Numerous projects are planned--from live-video feeds from the
poles and field experiences for students and teachers to museum exhibits
and IMAX films--and organizers intend for this session to highlight past
programs, as well as the diverse and creative projects planned for IPY
and beyond.
Organizers encourage abstract submissions from scientists, educators,
media experts, and others with existing or emerging programs designed to
help convey the "how" of polar science and demonstrate the relevance and
importance of polar regions to people around the world. Whether or not
your projects are funded yet or not, those with relevant experience and
expertise are invited to share their research and insights into
communicating the global relevance of polar science with the broader
community.
